Inspired by Henri Michaux’s 1929 essay of the same title, Still More Changes is an exploration in mutuality. This painting is a divergence because of its large cast of characters; all painted without sketching or planning. Much like the essay, Lyons is reaching for a feeling of constant unfolding, transmutation, and inversion. The artist challenged herself to work through uncertainty of both composition and relationships between the subjects, allowing them to demand space and the nature of their connection. This painting is a celebration of our need for connection - yet more so, the ineluctable nature of life, encouraging an embracing of all living beings and all that is unknowable between us.
