These extruded eyes looking outward, taking up space, push to the very edges of the picture but also become framing devices for what is happening beneath – a series of connections. How can one be a subject under the conditions that we have created for ourselves? On one layer of the painting, subjects emerging from subjects, the gaze of one becoming the being of another, whose gaze becomes the being of yet another – how we make one another as virtual social beings. Observing and being observed. On another register, loose hands work together to bring something into form – a community.
