In this painting, a scene containing numerous anthropomorphised plants is overlaid with a scene containing numerous anthropomorphised animals, as a human figure overlaid on top of them all thinks 'this better be good'; waiting for the spectacle of ecological collapse, and by and large incapable of valuing other forms of life outside human-determined frameworks. Recently in Australia we have had police beating and pepper-spraying climate protesters. The prime minister referred to the protesters as 'selfish and indulgent'. This was followed by a move on the part of the federal government seeking to outlaw the boycotting of corporations based on environmental concerns. These are the depths of denial that we are plumbing.
