In the film Jolie Valse (2007) a ballroom dancer and a folk dancer enter a theatre in Lisbon, mount the stage and dance to a waltz played on the bandoneon (a type of concertina) by the French musician Eric Thézé. They each dance alone, and only come together as they pass one another entering and leaving the auditorium. Sarmento describes the work as intentionally melancholic.
