'This painting depicts cupped hands holding disembodied eyes. It emerged intuitively, pushed its way into the world. The eyes slip through the fingers of two hands, whilst a third is held out to catch them below. Falling from the gaze of the other, in Lacanian terms, can affect the way one’s sense of oneself in the world takes form. In this instance there is someone there to catch it.
Layered with this imagery is a maze that takes the form of a convoluted speech bubble. It begins with the silhouette of a person speaking and ends in an empty space for speech at the opposite corner of the canvas. These layers are embedded in a soft, textured surface suggestive of an uninhabited landscape.'
