Referencing 17th-century Dutch and Flemish painting, Lyons depicts a bull breaking through the carcass of a pig, a barrier of death and decay. While the desire to live is considered to be exclusive to humans, it becomes evident that this is not the case when witnessing the way animals fight for their lives. The impulse to thrive is demonstrated by the way the bull, and the foliage is drawn towards the warmth of the sun, an energetic force.
