This work continues Mitosla’s series of paintings, begun at the end of 2022, which revolve around an imagined, utopian Republic on the Cyclades islands in Greece. Here she has created a luminous landscape of hot earth and cool seas on which sits architecture formed of ‘smoking cyborg caryatids’. The unworldliness of the scene is emphasised with the distortion of scale of the figures, the frontal figure appears monumental while the caryatids holding up the architecture are life-size.
