At the centre of Creatures of the Flame I, a solitary tree clings to a rock, illuminated by the molten glow of a rotunda dissolving into cavern walls. Blissett draws us into the immensity of tenebrous cave systems, lit by fire, ice, and moonlight, where natural architecture and human fantasy entwine. Moving away from the classical paradigm of fortified human structures, Creatures of the Flame I suggests an entanglement of man-made and geological forms. Building upon the traditions of landscape painting, Blissett reimagines the landscape not as a backdrop but as a spectral force that unsettles boundaries between nature, culture, and the self.
