For her first solo show at the gallery in London, 'Navigation without numbers', Koo produced two site-specific installations that juxtaposed the simple initial awareness of the space with that of a rich immersive one.
Upon entering the room the gallery seems to be empty. Then intermittently two of the gallery’s walls suddenly shake and tremble as if the building is shivering. The experience of seeing 'Its Soul' (2012) is tense and somewhat disarming, like the building is alive.
A new version of this work was installed on a larger scale at the 10th Gwangju Biennale – Burning Down The House, curated by Jessica Morgan (5 September – 9 November 2014). Here the discreetly vibrating wall, installed at the entrance of the Biennale exhibition hall, symbolised the biennale itself as a moving organic being.
