Black Moon Socket: The title of this piece comes directly from the intensity of the black circle in the upper right of the painting. It can be read as an eclipsed moon, as a whole in the work itself or in the fabric of nature or an empty eye. In general this work drew inspiration from images of Rousseau's neo-primitive landscape/dreamscapes. There is a sweaty verdant quality of Jungleness that it both the jungle of landscape and the tangled imaginings of mindscape. Gestures and shapes refer to both fauna and flora hopelessly and wonderfully intertwined. Images from blogs about "exotic" vacations also influenced this work in addition to stills from Sci Fi and Surrealist films.
