For Art Night London, Koo Jeong A was invited to create a site-specific installation responding to the uncanny disused Jubilee line platform in Charing Cross Underground Station. 'Odorama' (2016) creates a sensory environment using smell and light, that considers the architecture of the Underground as a place of bodily encounters and movement.

The earthy smell Koo Jeong A used is known as ‘Oud’ and comes from the wood of the Southeast Asian agar tree. The tree must to age for 100 years before it can be used for its scent, as the tree becomes infected with a particular type of mould and the wood reacts by producing a dark, scented resin. The scent is has been used for over a thousand years in the Middle East and Asia, both at home and in religious ceremonies.

In her environments, nothing is merely ordinary; on the contrary, any material or phenomena – be it a mound of charcoal, a shaft of iron, or a glare of sunlight – are transformed into new discoveries or journeys.
