The SIS Building was designed by British architect Terry Farrell’s firm in London. Given that Cui Jie’s first impression of the building comes from James Bond movies, she created an assemblage of the structure with communication network towers, representing subjects of science, technology, communication and intelligence.
As one connects all the dots: SIS Building - The second Peak Tower - The Victoria Harbour - The Lakeside Pavilion - International Space Station, from London to Hong Kong to the space, from the present to history to the future, and eventually back to the Victoria Peak, one can understand the idea of “Plural Pupils/Plural Visions”: multiple imperialist perspectives, fused with different ideas of landscape, operating as numerous pupils in an eye, shutting and opening in turn, in different times.
