This painting presents a pretty aggressive exchange - a woman shouts at a man about indebtedness and consequences whilst he pisses Mondrianesque fragments on her feet. The Mondrian reference came from a predilection in this region of the world for a surprising number of white male art historians to champion Mondrian as the ultimate 'political' artist. The man in the painting still wears his work shoes. Cut into the background are line drawings depicting heroic men and nurturing women. Behind them, four hands work together to unravel a tangled knot - expressing the hope that this binary is more complex than it appears. The woman's voice encapsulates the male figure, becoming like a uterus surrounding his body, only he is coming out the wrong way - in breach.
